Welcome to the 1st edition of ‘ Aneesh Gera’s SPOTLIGHT ’ ! Its great to be on board with India-nightlife.com, a company that I’ve worked closely with over the last few years. To give you an idea about my column, it’s weekly, covering the latest music trends, artists, DJs, radio shows, videos, music news and not to mention main feature of the column, high profile interviews. I will also be featuring new talent in my section ‘ People to watch ’

So far 2012 has been huge for the EDM community with Skrillex taking home 3 Grammy Awards from 5 nominations. This took the whole EDM world by storm, with the general feeling being ‘ one of our own had arrived ’. Skrillex tweeted later on to say, “If I can win Grammys then that means all you yet to be seen bedroom geniuses will one day TAKEOVER THE WORLD “
After Skrillex made Grammy history, we noticed a very amused Deadmau5 wearing a t-shirt with Skrillex’ mobile no printed on the front, classic !

Sonny John Moore ( Skrillex ) journey began with the release of his 1st official EP ‘ my name is Skrillex ’ which he released as a free download. Deadmau5 posted about this debut free EP on facebook, gaining huge awareness and support. An EP called ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ was to follow on Mau5trap Recordings. The newly crowned king of dubstep is ready to take over the electronic dance scene and he may not even know it. His recent destruction of Beatport’s Top 10, in which he held an unprecedented 8 spots, is evidence of that. No other artist has ever shown that kind of chart dominance ! Following world success, Skrillex found himself headlining major festivals, on world tours and gaining massive respect from his peers, with all this cementing him in music history and not to mention a few Grammys for good measure !

A few things I would suggest to keep an eye out for,
• Arguably the biggest radio show in the world, PETE TONG on BBC Radio1 airs every Friday night at 9pm GMT and can be streamed online. Quite simply the gospel for any music enthusiast.
• Pop star Elsie’s new viral music video TIME TO GO. Gaining about 1000s views per day ! this unusual yet highly addictive video is must see . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4po2VcXsbU
• The HOTMIX featuring DJ IVAN and ROHIT BARKER on Radio Indigo 91.9FM. Without a doubt the benchmark for all radio shows in India, with a 5 year history, these veterans know how its done.
